Privacy Policy
Effective date: 31 Aug 2026
Mercantile Commerce LLC ("Mercantile Commerce," "we," "us") operates this website at mercantilecommerce.com. This policy explains what information we collect from visitors to this website, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, how we protect it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
We have tried to write this in plain language. If anything here is unclear, or if you want to know something this policy does not answer, contact us through the contact form on our home page.
Information we collect
Information you give us. The only place on this website where you can submit information to us is our contact form. When you use it, we collect your first name, last name, email address, and whatever you write in the message field. You choose what to put in the message. We do not ask for payment information, government identification numbers, or any other sensitive personal information anywhere on this website.
Information collected automatically. Our website is hosted on Squarespace. Like most website platforms, Squarespace records standard technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser type and version, the pages you view, the date and time of your visit, and the site that referred you. Squarespace also sets a small number of cookies in your browser, described in the cookies section below.
We do not run advertising trackers, social media pixels, or third-party marketing analytics on this website.
How we use your information
We use contact form submissions to respond to you. If that conversation leads to a business relationship, we keep the correspondence as part of our normal business records.
We use automatically collected technical information to understand how the website is being used in aggregate — which pages people read, where visitors come from — and to keep the site working and secure.
We do not use your information to build a marketing profile, we do not add you to a mailing list without you asking, and we do not use contact form submissions for automated decision-making.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This website sets three, all of them from Squarespace, our hosting platform:
crumb — a security cookie that protects form submissions against cross-site request forgery. Without it the contact form does not work.
ss_cvr and ss_cvt — Squarespace's own visitor analytics cookies, which let us see aggregate visit and page-view counts.
We also load fonts from Adobe Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Adobe's servers when a page loads.
We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Because we set no advertising cookies, we do not display a consent banner. If you would rather block cookies entirely, every major browser lets you refuse or delete them in its settings — note that blocking the security cookie will stop the contact form from working.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent, trade, or otherwise disclose it to third parties for their own marketing.
We share information with a small number of service providers who need it to operate our business on our behalf such as the host of this website and our email provider. Each of these providers operates under its own privacy terms and is permitted to use the information only to provide its service to us.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to — to comply with applicable law, a court order, or valid legal process, or to establish or defend our legal rights.
How long we keep your information
We keep contact form submissions and the correspondence that follows for as long as we have an active or reasonably prospective business relationship with you, and for three years after our last contact, after which we delete them. Where a submission leads to a signed engagement, related records are kept for as long as our business and tax record-keeping obligations require.
Automatically collected technical information is retained according to Squarespace's own retention periods for hosting logs and analytics.
You can ask us to delete your information sooner. See the next section.
How we protect your information
We use the security controls appropriate to a business of our size handling the information described in this policy. Access to contact form submissions and correspondence is limited to the people at Mercantile Commerce who need it. Our accounts with the service providers named above are protected by multi-factor authentication, and information is encrypted in transit to and from this website, which is served over HTTPS.
No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We will not claim otherwise.
Your rights
Depending on the law that applies, you may have a right to access and rectify or erase your personal data or receive a copy of your personal data, restrict or object to the active processing of your data, ask us to share your personal information to another entity, withdraw any consent you provided to us to process your data, a right to lodge a complaint with a statutory authority and such other rights as may be relevant under applicable laws.
To exercise your rights, contact us through the contact form on our home page. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we may decline where the law requires or permits us to keep something.
Children
This website is intended for businesses. We do not direct it to children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
This website links to sites we do not operate. This policy does not cover those sites, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. Read their policies if you are concerned about what they do.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top and post the updated policy here. Material changes take effect when posted. Continuing to use this website after a change means the updated policy applies to you.
